What is auto transformer?
Answer Posted / niranjana
auto transformer is an electrical transformer consists of single winding.
That is both primary and secondary act as a single core.
An autotransformer is not electrically isolated.
so low impedence because of less copper windings. due to this more current flows in the winding. this may cause damage.
It is used as a variable voltage transformer.
It is also used as a starter for synchronous and induction machines.
