actually when we supply the 3 phase power to stator of the
m\c than a rotating magnetic field rotates in the air gap
with synchronous speed .(N=120f/p).this rotating field
sweeps the rotor due to inertia of rotor.(means rotor
initially remains in stationary and field doesnt able to
rotate it.)sowe need a dc excitation to rotor .for low speed
dc excitation,for medium and high speed we need thyristor
based brush less excitation.
