Why do we use diesal engine for heavy machinery and not petrol?
Answer Posted / sanjay
The Compression ratio is calculated by the following
formula:
CR= ((3.14*b^2/4*s+Vc)+VC) / Vc
, where
b = cylinder bore (diameter)
s = piston stroke length
Vc = clearance volume.
In deisel Engine the compression ratio is in the range of
20:1 to 25:1, which is very high as compared to Petrol
engine. for same bore dia, the stroke is bigger in case of
a diesel engine that is why for heavy engine diesel engine
is suitable than petrol engine.
