Why do we use diesal engine for heavy machinery and not petrol?

Answer Posted / sanjay

The Compression ratio is calculated by the following
formula:
CR= ((3.14*b^2/4*s+Vc)+VC) / Vc
, where
b = cylinder bore (diameter)
s = piston stroke length
Vc = clearance volume.

In deisel Engine the compression ratio is in the range of
20:1 to 25:1, which is very high as compared to Petrol
engine. for same bore dia, the stroke is bigger in case of
a diesel engine that is why for heavy engine diesel engine
is suitable than petrol engine.

Calculate the exit velocity and mass flow rate, assuming isentropic expansion and super saturated flow. b) A cast iron cylinder head is fastened to a cylinder of 750mm bore with 12 stud bolts. The maximum pressure inside the cylinder is 3 Mpa. The stiffness of part is thrice the stiffness of the bolt.
