are induction motor have poles? yes / no , why?

Answer Posted / iamdon

Strictly speaking, Induction Motor has not any pole
construction in design however during operation it induces
a pair of poles. It is explained as follows.

Induction motor works on the induction principle in a
similar way as transformer works.

3 phase balanced supply is given to 3 phase balanced
winding which are 120 degree electrically spaced. This
produces a rotating magnetic field which may be considered
as a pair of rotating poles. Since rotor winding is shorted
so volatge induced in rotor bars induces current in rotor
bars. Force acts on rotor bars due to which it rotates in
the direction of rotating field.Rotor bar current also
produces rotating megnetic field which may be considered as
a pair of rotating poles.Speed of rotation armature field
is greater than that of induced rotor field.
