2 Tier architecture has only two tiers
ie:Presentation layer(.NET) and Data tier(Database)
3 Tier architecture has three tiers
ie: Presentation layer(java,swing,struts),Business tier
(JMS,java beans),Data tier(DB like SQL,Oracle).
