What is the basic difference between Latches and Flip flops?
Answer Posted / anas yaseen
Acytually i have some tips which are written in mano's book:
1- latches operate with signal levels (not signal
transitions)
On the other handflip-flops are controled with clock signal
transitions.
so latches are said to be level sensitive devices & flip
flops are said to be edge transitoins devices
the two devices are related because latches are the basic
circuits from which all the flip-flops are constructed
2- latches are usfull for storing information and for
designing asynchronous sequntial circuits but are not
practical for use in synchronous sequential circuits
because they are considered as the building blocks of the
flip-flops.
I hope this is usefull.
