Why Ammeter is always connected in series in the circuit and
Voltmeter in parallel?

Answer Posted / umesh prabhu

In series the current has to flow through all the elements
or load, and in a single circuit the same current flow from
positive potential to the negative potential therefore to
measure the total current produced in a circuit we should
connect the ammeter in series and that is the same reason
also why the current is same in a series connected load.
The voltmeter measures the potential difference between two
points i.e. from higher to lower(drop) or lower to higher
(rise)so to measure a voltage in a battery we have to
connect the voltmeter across the battery whereby it get
connected between positive potential and negative potential
similar is the way to measure voltage across any load or
device that is the reason why a voltmeter is connected in
parallel(i.e. across) the load.
