Soft starter consists of thyristers but at the time of
motor starting it limits the current 4 times.(normally at
DOL motor takes current 7--8 times.Instead of it where the
power source is limited normally VFD is used which starts
the motor from 0-1-2......50 Hz.i-e current starts from 0
and increases slowly as frequency increases per Hz.So VFD
is more better than soft starter.

hi I have done 3 yrs diploma in electrical engg after 10+2. I have 16 years of work experience into design proposals sales and engg application development in LV/MV swithcgear and sub station automation field. I don't understand why when we connect high voltage source in DC to electronic motor , we must add capacitor and resistor in parallel ? (I know that we use capacitor because we want to absorb the current that in the first second electronic motor in opposed with current course produce. ) what are the feature of Resistor and in such situation ?
