what is the difference between impulse and reaction turbines ?
Answer Posted / shashi prakash singh
the basic difference lies on the energy that they employ to
do work in the impulse turbine, wherein the change in
velocity(change in steams' direction)due to curvature of
the blades results in drop of the kinetic energy thereby
doing the useful work[IMPULSIVE ONLY]
while in a reaction turbine the converging crossection of
the blades results in the increase of the kinetic energy at
the expense of its pressure energy and this energies
together employ doing the work[IMPUSIVE AS WELL AS THE
PRESSURE]
