Is it possible to design heat treatment processes such that
a gradient in grain size is produced?
Answer Posted / sk singh
Normally during solidification (if the casting size is big)
cores has larger grain size than the grains at the surface
of casting. so if there is gradient in grain size is needed
across the casting, there must be uneven cooling rates
throughout the crossection. if we able to maintain a temp
gradient during heat treatment , then it is possible to have.
