how ranges is decided for drum level or dearator level,in
my pplant i have seen for boiler drum range is -1000 to
1000mmwc, while for dearator -2000 to 0 mmwc ,why they
decided to take this range ?

Answer Posted / vishal

In case of drum, it contains both water and steam and the
zero is located the midway to maintain optimum level in
drum say -30mm is maintained for safe boiler operation and
high levels are controlled to avoid water rushing to super
heaters and damaging turbine and simmilarily very low drum
levels are avoide to protect overheating of drum and
prevent excessive rise in drum metal temperatures. but in
case of deaerator we are only concerned with the actual
level present in it to indicate in control room.level
ranges are generally in accordance with the height and we
take 0 for min level and for eg 1000mm if the height is
1200 mm or equivalent for safe operations .

Calculate the maximum pressure drop that can be allowed to occur across a control valve, so that we can prevent cavitation / flashing from occurring. Use the following formula: Δ P allow = Km (P1 – PvapourA) where, Δ P allow - the maximum allowable differential pressure for sizing purposes, or terminal pressure drop; Km- the valve recovery coefficient from the manufacturer’s catalogue; P1 - absolute inlet fluid pressure; PvapourA - absolute fluid vapour pressure at the inlet temperature; Use Atmospheric pressure = 101.3 kPa, P1 = 1200 kPa(g), PvapourA = 4 kPa, KM = 0.72
