SAP is an ERP Software where SAP stands for Systems,
Applications and Products in data processing. SAP was
developed by German software company SAP AG in 1972 and the
initial version was called SAP R/1. In 1979, SAP launched
SAP R/2 and in 1981, new version called SAP R/3 was
launched.
SAP ERP is desinged to cater all the needs of an
organization using a single . SAP maintains a central
database for all the departments of an enterprise and all
SAP modules are interconnected and hence realtime reporting
becomes possible unlike in legacy systems where lack of
interconnection among different applications result in time
lag.
Currently, more than 12 million users work each day with
SAP solutions. There are now 121,000 installations
worldwide, more than 1,500 SAP partners, over 25 industry-
specific business solutions, and more than 75,000 customers
in 120 countries. SAP is the world's third-largest
independent software vendor.
SAP full form initially was Systemanalyse und
Programmentwicklung. This is german for System analysis and
program development. The name was later changed into
Systeme, Anwendungen und Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung:
Systems, application and products in the data processing.
