What happens if a three phase induction motor is suddenly
single-phased while running? Which type of winding
connection will be affected?
Answer Posted / raj
If a three phase motor is suddenly single phased, nothing
will happen to the motor. Perhaps the motor will coast down
to stop. Single phased means only one phase out of three is
connected to the motor, and since the neutral is never
connected to a three phase motor, there fore no current
will flow into the motor and hence motor will stop as usual.

As we use capacitior bank in 3ph ckt for improvement of PF, why not we use capacitor in single phase domestric use, at our house their are many inductive equipments, like fan, mixer, tube choke, air conditioner they also draw PF... by using capacitor can they improve PF. if yes--what are advantage and how to connect a capactor in single ph,and which type of capacitor if no- what are disadvantages.
