what is silica fumes or micro silica? and whr is it used?
wat r its advantages?
Answer Posted / suresh sathyavrithan
Silica fumes and microsilica both are same. This product is
manfactures from reduction of high purity quartz(sio2) with
coal in an electric arc furnace in the manufacture of
silicon or ferrosilicon alloy.it is 100 times finer than
cement. It can be used for high strength concrete as well as
durable concrete.
The use of Microsilica in conjuction with superplasticiser
has been achived high performance concrete. is more dense
and durable. As it is finer it can fill the pore spaces in
the concrete and could be achieved high resistance when
load will transmit. Also when the durablity will increase
chloride ion penetration from the water and soil can be
reduced and accordingly corrosion of reinforecment ceased.

5. Two long boundary walls run parallel to each other at a center to center distance of 1 meter apart. The width and height of the first wall are 0.30 m and 2.5m respectively. While those of the second are respectively 0.18m and 3.5m. Plot the distribution of vertical stress intensity due to walls on a horizontal plane, 1m below ground level. The walls have negligible depth of foundation and are made of brick masonry (y = 19.2 kN/m cu)
