depends on type of d motor..i.e. it's construction.
A PMDC motor will not run on AC.
A shunt wound motor will not run on AC. There will b heavy
heating that may cause damage.
A series motor functions as Universal Motor and hence will
run satisfactorily on AC.

is it possible to say motor horsepower number without seeing name plate(when name plate damaged)
