One of the advantages of HRC fuse links is that they can be
used to back up equipment with an inadequate rupture
rating. briefly discuss what this means
Answer Posted / dhedhipya
First Understand this,
Rated current of fuse: It means that the current a fuse can
withstand for an indefinite period without any undue heating
or melting.
Rupture rating is also a similar term it is the capacity
fuse to withstand the damage due to arcs created.
HRC fuse is also called High Voltage Explosion Fuses.
HRC fuse is used in Large Power Houses. The common fusing
element is silver, copper and tin. These fuses surround the
fusible link with gas evolving substances, such as boric
acid and silicon dioxide(sand). Some special type fuses
surround one or more parallel connected fusible links. When
fuse blows, heat from arc causes boric acid to evolve large
volumes of gases. The associated high pressures and cooling
gases rapidly extinguish the resulting arc. The hot gases
are then explosively expelled out of the end.

In a power conditoining unit (inverter) of a solar plant when we measure the d.c. current fed by different strings of solar plates to inverter, the current in the negative wire is less almost by 1 ampere to the current in its positive wire say current in positive wire 5 A , then current in negative wire of the same string is 4 A. Since the current entering should be equal to current leaving then why the current is noticably less in negative wire.
