Knocking is nothing but sudden increase in pressure inside
the engine cylinder. as the flame propogates from spark
plug it burns the mixture on its path until every mixture
is combusted. but due to the high temperature inside the
cylinder even before the flame reaches the mixture which is
already in or over ignition temperature it gets ignited
automatically. So due to the phenomenon the above said
sudden increase in pressure inside the cylinder occurs
resulting in knocking.
