What is Six Sigma, Where is it used and what is its Benifits
Answer Posted / anupam mantry
Sigma is the standard deviation in mathematical statics.
Six Sigma means getting the product very close to zero
defects, errors or mistakes. However zero defects does not
indicate exactly zero. Zero is actually 0.002 parts per
million defective, which can be written as
0.002 defects per million
0.002 errors per million
0.002 mistakes per million
How ever, for all practical puposes. six sigma is
considered to be zero defects. (Note the concept of 3.4
defects per 1 million opportunities is a motorola concept.)
In short six sigma is a method to accomplish strategic
business results.
Six Sigma used considering two situation where a business
performing poorly and a business performing well.
Best formula is
D- define
M- measure
A-Analyze
I-iimprove
C-Control
Benefits are fewer defects means lower cost and improved
customer's satisfaction and loyality.
