Consider a scenario :
As a employee ( of course as a QA tester :-) ) you are
Performance benchmarking say CPU load.
You are interested when ever the CPU touches 95% load. You
trigger / alarm whenever the load is 95% as an INDICATOR.
Often you MEASURE various variables of CPU %idle , %steal ,
run queue etc during your course of testing. ( top , vmstat,
sar commands etc )
Also there is a goal / METRIC to be achieved during the
tuning process for example say maximum 30% CPU idle time at
all times .
