Gross profit= Sales-Cost of goods sold
Cost of goods sold is nothing but
(Opening stock+Purchases+all direct expenses-closing stock)
Operating profit=Gross profit-Operating Expenses
it is also called Net Profit.
Operating expenses are nothing but all Indirect Expenses
like Salaries, Telephone, Stationary and so on.

Why in a cash book receipts are debited while the same if received in our books recepits are credited. Why does cash book have a rule to debit receipts and credit payments. Do I need a waybill in the following case:- If I purchase (on bill) small quantity goods (like artificial jewelry) from one state (say Delhi) and transports it personally (say via flight) to other state (say West Bengal) along with my personal belongings and then I put them to sell through my boutique in that state.
