What are the different types of brakes and explain them?
Answer Posted / Pushpendra Katiyar
There are several types of brakes, each designed for specific applications:
1. Disc Brakes: These use friction pads to clamp down on a rotor (disc) attached to the wheel hub. They provide excellent stopping power and are found on most modern cars.
2. Drum Brakes: These consist of shoes lined with friction material that press against the inside of a drum when the brake pedal is pressed, causing the vehicle to slow or stop.
3. Band Brakes: These use a flexible steel band that applies pressure to the brake shoe to slow or stop the vehicle. They are often used in industrial applications and on some types of trucks.
4. Expanding Shoe Brakes: Similar to drum brakes, these use friction shoes that expand outward when the brakes are applied, pressing against a brake drum.
