Alloys are mixtures of metals with other elements to improve their properties. Common examples include stainless steel, brass, and aluminum alloys. Alloys have various uses in daily life such as in cooking utensils (e.g., stainless steel pots and pans), hardware (e.g., screws, nuts, and bolts made from brass), and transportation (e.g., lightweight aluminum alloy parts in airplanes). Alloys are made by melting the base metal along with other elements, often referred to as 'alloying elements', and then cooling and solidifying the mixture.
