The carrying capacity of a cable depends on its cross-sectional area (CSA) and current density (I/CSA). For a 2.5/3 core H07RN-F cable, the CSA is approximately 2.5 mm². To determine if it can safely carry 8.6 Amps over 120 meters, we first need to find the voltage drop and power loss.
1. Calculate the resistance (R) using the formula R = ( length of cable / CSA ) * resistance per unit length (RUL). For a typical H07RN-F cable, RUL is around 0.046 Ohms/m².
2. Find the voltage drop (Vd) with the formula Vd = I * R.
3. Ensure that the voltage drop does not exceed the allowable voltage drop (usually specified by the manufacturer or local regulations).
4. If the voltage drop is acceptable, calculate the power loss (P) using the formula P = I² * R.
5. Check if the power loss is within the limit to avoid overheating and potential damage to the cable.
