Describe the Stabilisation of Barium sulfate precipitate in
McF' scale ?
Answer Posted / Ghanshyam Tiwari
Barium sulfate precipitate can be stabilized in McIlvaine buffer (McF buffer) by adjusting the pH and ionic strength of the buffer. The McIlvaine buffer is a mixture of citric acid and sodium phosphate, which has a buffering capacity over a wide pH range. To stabilize barium sulfate precipitate in McIlvaine buffer, the pH is adjusted to 4.8 by adding sodium hydroxide or hydrochloric acid. The ionic strength can be increased by adding sodium chloride to prevent the dissolution of the precipitate during centrifugation.
