commutator mainly facilitates the collection of current
from the armature conductors and also converts the
alternating current induced in the armature conductors into
an unidirectional pulsating dc current in the external load
ckt.this is done by proper switching of current in the
right coil at right time.

when working as a motor it collects the current from brush and gives to armature slots.when working as a generator it works as a rectifier.it collects the current from armature and gives to brush in one direction.i.e.current flow is in ine direction.

Commuitar is work like rectifire .its change a.c to d.c when genretor work it takes armechar curunt corbon slots bruch and change another direation into the load side.
