Question
how many safeties should be present in boiler?what are they?
Rank Answer Posted By

This Interview Question Asked @   Thermax , Pump Technology Pvt Ltd, Dn
I also faced this Question!!   ALL Interview .com
Answer
there are 2 to 6 numbers of safety valves (SVs) on the boiler.
Around 2 Nos on Drum, of one high and one low setpoint.
Around 2 Nos on Superheater Steam Line of one high and one low setpoint.(but less then Drum SV setpoint, to avoid starvation of SH main steam line)
around 2 Nos on reheater line (if reheater is provided)
Apart from it 1 No of EMRV on the HP superheater line, setpoints below that of Safety valves of the lines.

Also we have Relief valves on he HP econimiser, which acts as a Over protection valve (against Pressure)

Remember SVs are Differnt from Relief valves, as RVs are used on liquid whereas SVs are used on Steam line.

Question
Difference between directional earth fault and
non-directional earth fault
Rank Answer Posted By
 Question Submitted By :: Guest
I also faced this Question!!   ALL Interview .com
Answer
Directional Earth Fault detection is used to isolate a
fault, when using more than one source of power input.
Current Transformers are used to verify the net sum of
current as zero between any two sources of power. If there
is a fault, the breaker between the power sources is
OPENED. The protection logic will then see if the fault has
cleared. If the fault has cleared, the fault is on the side
with ungrounded power source, and will protection logic
will trip the ungrounded power supply. Conversely if the
fault continues to flow after the bus tie is OPEN, then the
fault is on the side of the grounded power supply, and the
grounded power supply will be tripped.
Non-directional Earth Fault would be a simple fault
detection, as located on a generator neutral.

Answer
Directional Earth Fault is the Fault(between Phase/s to
Earth)in the system,if system is using only one source, so
Fault would be in one direction(towards the system)
where as Non-Directional Earth Fault is the
Fault(between Phase/s to Earth)in the system,if system is
using two or more source, so Fault would be in two
direction(away or towards)
