| Answer | I would first pull up his data for last 3-4 weeks and try
to identify regarding the areas of concern. Then I'll sit
and discuss with him regarding his performance. While on
discussion I'll try to judge: Is it because of any process
knowledge issue? Is it because of lack of interest? Is it
because of some personal problems? Or of some other
reasons? Based on the entire discussion I'll come to know
where he is lacking behind resulting to downfall in
performance. If it is because of knowldge I need to arrange
training, mentoring or coaching programs to improve his
performance. Moniter his performance during this period and
amend the action plan, if required. If it is for
disinterest, then altogether a different action plans needs
to be initiated. |

| Answer | The traffic chaos in Hyderabad seems like an eternal issue.
The city has the highest density of vehicles with 1,337
vehicles per kilometre of road space. The problem is getting
worse with an addition of about 10,000 new vehicles to the
city roads every month. Ideally, the road space should be
spread over 20-30 per cent of the total area of the city,
but Hyderabad has a mere six per cent.
Add to this, the infamous Hyderabadi road rage and lack of
traffic sense, and you have a chaotic traffic scenario. The
situation only gets worse with time. The city's vehicular
population has gone up by 50 per cent in the last five
years. In April 2008, 26 lakh vehicles were said to be
plying on the city roads.
With crawling traffic and never-ending traffic jams in the
city, more time is spent travelling short distances and the
stress clearly shows on the citizens.
Over 1 lakh auto rickshaws plying on the city roads add to
the menace and contribute heavily in creating chaos. Every
person standing or walking on the road seems like a
prospective customer and the drivers vary their speed
accordingly in the middle of the road.
"The situation is messy, but with limited manpower, there is
no way cops can be posted at all important junctions. Our
efforts have been to deploy personnel at important
junctions," says N.V. Surendra Babu, Additional Commissioner
of Police (Traffic). But increasing the manpower to even the
double the number would not solve the problem, feels the
traffic department, which maintains that it is the
responsibility of every individual to ensure that the roads
become free of traffic violators.
In Hyderabad, the fatal accident count has been steadily
going up each year. Four traffic constables were crushed to
death while on duty in the past 11 months while 391 people
became victims to road accidents in 2007 leav ing 3,447
people injured. Andhra Pradesh reports the highest number of
road accidents in the country in 2007 |
