During sunset and sun rise the light rays from sun has to 
travel a long distance through the atmosphere. Durig this 
travelling short wave radiations like violet and blue 
becomes scattered and did not reach the lower atmosphere. 
Long wave radiations like red undergo low ascattering at 
high altitudes and reach the lower attmosphere so we can 
see the atmosphere as in red colour
