If excitation will increase, then what will be the effect 
on power factor? Will it decrease or increase?

it depends on the machine.If it is a motor and if we 
increase excutation power will shift from lagging to 
leading.as we increse the excitation angle will first 
decrease as in lagging side than angle will increase in 
leading side and hence the power factor will initially may 
be .8 lagging than .9L,.95L,1 than .95 leading ,.9Ld,.8Ld

the alternator load increase the excitation will increase 
same time pf decrease we use our avr auto mode it will 
maintain automatically
