Why in a three pin plug the earth pin is thicker and longer
than the other pins?

Answer
# 1
The above answers for why it is thicker.
It is longer because the The First to make the connection
and Last to disconnnect should be earth Pin. This assures
Safety for the person who uses the elctrical instrument.

Answer
# 2
the earth pin must be thicker than the other pins because
the leakage current or short circuit current passes through
the earth pin will 5 to 10 times higher than the phase
current....

It depends upon R=rho l/a where area(a) is inverly
propotional to resistance (R), so if (a) increases, R
dcreases & if R is less the leakage current will take low
resistance path.

Answer

earth pin is long for first to get connected with the
equipment so if any leakage it pass through the earth and
person will safe . they are larger to give more area of
contact so that leakage current will pass with less
resistance instead of passing through the working person

For electrical safety reasons the longer earth pin is the
first pin to establish contact when all three pins (earth,
active and neutral)are inserted into a socket. It is also
the last pin to be disengaged. The larger csa of the earth
pin allows any fault current (active to earth) to flow
easily through the pin/socket connection.

# 6
For electrical safety reasons the longer earth pin is the
first pin to establish contact when all three pins (earth,
active and neutral)are inserted into a socket. It is also
the last pin to be disengaged.

This means that any exposed conductive parts of equipment
to earth are:
(a)made automatically, before the live connections are made,
when any plug portion is inserted in the corresponding
socket-outlet; and
(b) broken automatically, not before the live connections
are broken, when any plug portion is withdrawn from the
corresponding socket-outlet.

The larger csa of the earthpin allows any fault current
(active to earth) to flow easily through the pin/socket
connection.

We Know that Resistance=Resistivity X Length/Area
Since the area of earth pin is more it provides a low
resistance path for the current to flow.

I have a question to ask: Why is tht the 3-Pin plug is an isosceles triangle and not an equilateral triangle?

Thanks for the answer or trials if any!

Answer
# 9
The third pin is thicker than other pins so as to avoid the
lekage current to circulate in the circuit. As the
thickness is high so that the resistance path will be
reduced and the current can be conducted as the fault
current is 5 to 10 times larger than the cupply current

Is This Answer Correct ?    3 Yes 0 No

Answer
# 10
In a three pin plug the earth pin is thicker becoz the
lekage current is very high than phase current & when the
pin size is same i^r losses will be very high due to high
resistance path
