Answer
# 1
PLATE LOAD TEST IS TO FIND THE BEARING CAPACITY AND THE
SETTLEMENT OF THE FOUNDATION.
DESCRIPTION:: A TEST PLATE, SQUARE OR CIRCULAR IN SHAPE,
ARE USED. THE PLATE IS PLACED AT THE PROPOSED LEVEL OF THE
FOUNDATION AND IS SUBJECTED TO INCREMENTAL LOADING.
SETTLEMENT AT EACH INCREMENT OF THE LOADING IS MEASURED AND
A LOAD-SETTLEMENT CURVE IS PLOTTED. BEARING CAPACITY AND
THE SETTLEMENT OF THE FOUNDATION ARE DETERMINED FROM THE
LOAD-SETTLEMENT CURVES.

Answer
# 3
Plate Load Test is performed to determine the safe bearing
capacity of the soil.

The plate is placed and subjected to gradual incremental
loading. the Settlement at each incremental load is measured
and a Load v/s settlement Curve is plotted. thus the Bearing
Capacity of the soil is determined from the curves.

Answer
# 4
plate load test is the field test to determine the ultimate
bearing capacity of soil.the ultimate bearing capacity is
taken as a load at which the plate start sinking at a rapid
rate.
methods
*bearing plate
*test pit
*loading arrangement
*load increment
*setting of the plate
*settlement and observation
*load settlement curve and ultimate bearing capacity

# 5
Plate load test is a test carried out at the site to determine the allowable bearing capacity of the soil.A plate of size 0.3 to 0.6m of 25mm thick made up of steel is used. The plate may be square or circular in shape. The pit of size 5 times the size of the plate is excavated to a depth of foundation. A central hole is excavated in a pit on which the plate is placed. With a hydraulic jack, the seating load of 7kN/m2 is applied on the plate. Then the load is applied in increments and settlement is recorded. Then the graph between load intensity and the settlement is drawn, from which the bearing capacity of the soil can be determined by using formula.
