it is used to store the data in the centralized system in a 
structural format, which can be used by all employees 
involved in a particular project.

VSS :
 
--> Visual Source Safe...it is a configuration management 
tool...which keeps track records of the products or the 
applications which have been tested and also keep records 
of problems on defects, found by the testers, to provide a 
object specific report to the management.

--> It is Microsoft Product

Another configuration management tool is there..that is 
Clear Case...by IBM
