If the Options are not given. You can derive the answer
like this:

Let the number of canaries = X
number of cages = Y

According to 1st condition: X = Y+1
2nd condition: X = 2(Y-1)

=> Y+1 = 2(Y-1)
=> Y = 3
=> X = 4

Answer is 4 canaries and 3 Cages
