compatibilty of the software for the OS.

Check the OS with different versions for compatibility.

Input & Output should be the same for different versions
of the Operating System.

Generally latest version of OS provide more efficent 
hardware and utilities. And most of the customers want to 
upgrade their system for better performance.

Generally the software developed in latest OS have to go 
through the compatability test with the lower or upcoming 
version of the OS.

Yes, backward compatibility of OS will be tested for the
those agreed upon in SRC . and generally last stable version
will be tested for compatibility.
