Client Server is basically a 2 tier system where a client 
sends a request and server responds to that request.

Web based application is based on client Server system but 
it might be 3 tier system or a multi tier system.

In client server the business logic is at the client side. 

In th Web based applications, the business logic resides in 
the middleware(application server).

Web Browser -->Web Server -->Application Server-->Database 
Server.
