Client Server Application :The Application mainly consists 
of window type having screens etc.
This contains only Client(front end) and BAck end(Database -
Server).

Web based Application : The web application conists of 
online transaction (like web page).This containg more than 
two tier that client (Front end),Business logic
(security,protocols),Server(Database).

Appraochs for 2 tier application :The SRS documents that 
you got from clients and the development team.

SDLC cycles may be followed.

Same thing will be application for 3 tier testing

In webbased testing we test the functionality 
links,images,navigation,cookie testing etc., 
  in webbased applications we concentrate more on the 
performance testing like in webapplications the number of 
users are not predictable.
  in client  based application we do test all these but 
apart from these we do server side validation testing and 
we wont concentrate much on performance testing.
