Testing means operation of sytem  under controlled 
environmental conditions and evaluating the results(i.e 
actual and expected results).

Here the controlled environmental conditions means
            Both Normal conditions : + ve cases
            Abnormal conditions    : - ve cases

One more general definition is that
                   "comparision of actual and expected 
values of application under test"

Testing is the ability to identify the

software.Testing is the process working with the intent of
finding the errrors.

Verification and validation software is called testing. 
Testing provides the information whether or not certain 
products meets the requriment.the purpose of testing can be 
a, verification and validation and reliability of the 
estimation of the software

s/w testing is a process used to identify correctness,
completeness and quality of developed computer software
