Answer
# 1
transformer is an equipment which is used to transfer
power, voltage, current with out changing its frequency.it
is also used to increase or decrease the voltage by using
diffeent types of transformers like step-up and step down
transformers.if we transfer the power with out transformer
the voltage rating will come down as the distance of
transmission is increasing.

Answer
# 2
A transformer is used to increase or decrease the voltage
level.The types of transformers are
               1.step up
               2.step down
               3.centre tapped

Re: What is meant by transformer, why it should be used, with out that equipment what happens if we transformed the supply?
Answer
# 3
TRANSFORMER IS A STATIC DEVICE WHICH TRNSFORMS THE POWER
FROM ONE CIRCUIT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT BY CHANGING THE VOLTAGE
NOT BY CHANGING THE POWER AND FREQUENCY.
TRANSFORMERS ARE USED TO TO GET THE DESIRED VOLTAGE LEVEL.
IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO TRANSFER THE POWER WITHOUT
TRANSFORMER.BECAUSE ELECTRICITY CAN'T BE SENT AT 440/415V
FROM GENERATING STATION TO CONSUMER'S PREMISES.WE SHOULD
TRANSMIT AT HIGH VOLTAGE(IN KV).OTHERWISE POWER CAN'T BE
RECEIVED.

Answer
# 4
Transformer is that stactic device which transfers power
from one ckt. to other w/o changing frequency.

Transformer is used for stepping up & down the voltage
levels or as per requirments whenever needed.

Voltage level should be lower for Consumers like
Industries, Domestic, etc as compared to Generating
stations, Substations, switchyards hence w/o Trafo, voltage
level can't be changed like stepping up or down, hence to
get desired voltage level, we have to use transformers.

Answer
# 5
Transformer is an static electrical device.which transfor
energy from one electrical circuit to another
circuit, without changing in frequency.if we transformed
without using this device the cost and looses becomes more

Re: What is meant by transformer, why it should be used, with out that equipment what happens if we transformed the supply?
Answer
# 6
A transformer can accept energy at one voltage and deliver
it at another voltage. This permits electrical energy to be
generated at relatively low voltages and transmitted at
high voltages and low currents, thus reducing line losses
and voltage drop hence transformers are issential for power
transmition

Re: What is meant by transformer, why it should be used, with out that equipment what happens if we transformed the supply?
Answer
# 7
transformers are static device....they are used to step up
or step down the voltage in the transmission line....without
transformers the transmission will not be possible because
from the generating station the the voltage must be stepped
up for transmission purpose and after that it has to be
stepped down for domestic and industrial usage
