What is the method of Tan delta test for power Transformes and why it is required...

Answer / k.prakashchandra

The dissipation factor (tan delta) represents the gross
defects and overall dielectric losses in insulation. For this
an instrument(HV transformer ratio arm bridge) is available
for measurement of tan delta and capacitance. To assess the
state and quality of the mass of tr insulation ,the
following test schemes are used during measurement of tan
delta.1.HV vs LV grounded to tank 2.LV vs HV grounded to
tank 3.HV vs LV ungrounded 4.Bushing insulation with respect
to test tap.
