Q2. Pipe A takes 16 min to fill a tank. Pipes B and C, whose
cross-sectional circumferences are in the ratio 2:3, fill
another tank twice as big as the first. If A has a
cross-sectional circumference that is one-third of C, how
long will it take for B and C to fill the second tank?
(Assume the rate at which water flows through a unit
cross-sectional area is same for all the three pipes.)

Circumference units -> C = 1; B = 2/3; A = 1/3
Pipe cross sectional area units -> C = 1; B = 4/9; A = 1/9
Time = volume/ flow rate
Flow rate = constant x cross section area
Using the above, we can derive the time taken by B and C to
fill the tank, which twice the size of what A fills.
Solving, we get
Desired answer = 32/13

A takes 16 min for frist tank.. B and C circumfrence is 2:3... And A circum is one third of C so A is 1/3... Now
we have to fill twice the frist tank so A takes 32 min to fill.. B and C fills 5 time of A then ... So 32/5 is 6.4 min...
In a class of 60 students, the number of boys and girls
participating in the annual sports is in the ratio 3 : 2
respectively. The number of girls not participating in the
sports is 5 more than the number of boys not participating
in the sports. If the number of boys participating in the
sports is 15, then how many girls are there in the class?

Q2) Paul the octopus who has been forecasting the outcome
of FIFA world cup matches with tremendous accuracy has now
been invited to predict ICC world cup matches in 2011. We
will assume that the world cup contenders have been divided
into 2 groups of 9 teams each. Each team in a group plays
the other teams in the group. The top two teams from each
group enter the semi finals ( after which the winner is
decided by knockout).
However, Paul has a soft spot for India and when
India plays any team, Paul always backs India. Alas, his
predictions on matches involving India are right only 2 out
of 3 times. In order to qualify for the semi finals, it is
sufficient for India to win 7 of its group matches. What is
the probability that India will win the ICC world cup
