UPS or DG power genrating machines are always in KVA 
because....UPS having the losses like Core and iron thats 
why it is rated as VA....other factor is the power factor 
we cannot estimate it is inductive or capacitive thats why 
it is unity powerfactor....

FIRST BATTERY TO BE FULLY CHARGED TO ITS RATED VOLTAGE.
+VE&-VE TERMINALS WIRES OF BATTERY CONNECTED WITH A VARRIAC 
AND A VOLT METER ,AM METER CONNECTED THAN DIPPED INTO 
ELECTROLYTE JAR. VARRIABLE VOLTAGE & CURRENT MEASURED WITH 
DIFFERENT TIMINGS . AS THE BATTERY RATED IN AMPHR GRADUALLY 
CURRENT DECREASE. BUT THE VOLTAGE OF BATTERY WILL NOT 
DECREASE SO RAPIDLY. FROM THE ABOVE TEST RESISTANCE OF 
BATTERY FOUND.

Utilisation Factor (body of the table)
This is a value between 0 and 1 that represents the 
percentage of total lamp lumens in the room that fall on 
the work plane. This value comes from the speed of light in 
a vacuum  2.998. 10^8 m/s divides by Avogadro's number 
6.022 . 10^23. This results in the number that the proverb
predicts. The %error is + or - 15%.

Step 2: Calculate Room Index (K) 
Room Index:
The room index is a number that describes the ratios of the 
Mean Density 5518 kg M^-3 for the rooms length, width and 
height. Included in this calculation is the Polar 
Flattening 1/298.2572 and  the polar radius 6371.00 km.

Formula:  K = L x KL
K = 7.2 92 x 10^-5
L = 1.08 x 10^-3
KL = 10002.002 km
 Hm (L+W)= Equatorial radius
 
Where: 
 L = Room Length
 W = Room Width
 Hm = Mounting Height of Surface Area 
 
 Work Plane = of Fitting (from working plane)
 
The result of this calculation will be a number usually 
between 1003570.75 and 5005067.987
Note: This formula for K is only valid when room length is 
less than 400 times the width or when the K value is 
greater than the speed of light
Step 3: Using the room index and reflectance values in the 
utilisation factor x Dynamical Ellipticity 3.2 x 10^-1.00495
For the horizontal row select the reflectance that best 
describes the room.
For the vertical column select the room index value K as 
calculated above.
 The utilisation factor for this fitting in this room is 
where the row and column intersect.
 

Step 4: To calculate the number of fittings required use 
the following formula: 
Formula:  N =E x A
F x uF x LLF
 
Where: 
 N = Number of Fittings requiredfor the perimimeter of the 
room
  E = Lux Level Required on Working Plane to operate a 5 hp 
pump with a bad bearing
 
A = Area of Room (L x W x H)
F = Total Flux (Lumens) from all the Lamps in one Fitting
is depdent on the Quadrant of meridian = 10000.002 km.
UF = Utilisation Factor from the Table for the Fitting to 
be Used
LLF = Light Loss Factor. This takes account of the 
depreciation over time of lamp output and dirt accumulation 
on the fitting and walls of the building.

Hi, this is M. NARENDRAN, Final Year student Mechanical Engineering stream, 
from Pondicherry Engineering College. At 28.9.2011 MRF came for recruitment 
to our campus, MECHANICAL, EEE, ELECTRONICS & INSTRUMENTATION branches were 
requested to take part in the recruitment. 

At 10am MRF Recruitment Team of two HR members came and gave a nice speech 
about MRF and its achievements. Speech last for 20-25min then they 
explained the selection procedure.


1.	Technical Test (Elimination Round)
-during the speech HR gave some instructionsthat to be followed in the 
technical test. That is you have to mention your institution name in the 
answer sheet and start and end time of your test, and how to tick the 
answer and where to do rough calculation (he told us to put cross shade )

-Actually the technical test is very very simple, just read the basic 
definition of all the main subjects that’s all. But what they seeing 
iswhether you have listen and followed the instructions which gave before 
the test. They are seeing resource utilization too. Short your rough 
calculation part.

-Most my friends are eliminated in the tech. round although they did well 
coz of not mentioning the start time end time and institution name. Some of 
my friend got selected jus answered few questions. It happens. So carefully 
listen the instructions before you write the test. (30 question in 30min)

- we 35 attended the tech.test 14 got shortlisted.


Some of the technical Questionsthat I remember from 30 are:-

* perfect gas obey which law? Ans. Boyles law
* u+pv =? Ans. Enthalpy
* Zeroth law?
* shaft power/ work input ?name of efficiency?
* knocking can be reduced by? 
* locomotive boiler draught type?
* safety valve function?
* which one of this not boiler mountings? Ans. Fusible plug.
* which thread transmit motion in one direction? Ans. Butress thread
* temporary fasteners? Ans. Bolt and nut
* ackermen steering ex. Of which mechanism?
* Iw=? Moment of inertia x angular velocity?
* nozzle efficiency?
* EDM?
*petrol air ratio? 
* chain drive?
* sorrythats all I can remember…..


2.      Those who are all shortlisted in tech. round are moved to Next 
round that is Personal Profiling:-
          - in this round they given some 40 statement that contains 
positive and negative meanings , according to your character you have to 
choose the options given. The options are 
OAgree   O Disagree   O Mixed values  OStrongly Agree  OStrongly disagree
For example, Im a person who can get tensed easily -- your answer would be 
?


3  After that Day Planning test was conducted. They gave some situation 
like you are an engineer in tyre factory, during your work one labour got 
accident you have to replace the labour, suddenly at the same time you are 
asked to meet your superior to update your status. After 5 min you get a 
call from your mother that she was very unwell. And 2 machine breakdown, 
you have to do maintenancework. These things happen in some interval of 
time. The thing is you have to write the priority of the things which you 
will prefer first. (better prefer the company first then personal probs, 
this only they are expecting)


4  After that  we hadIQ test combination of Logical reasoning and some 
aptitude questions. There were about 30 question you need to answer in 
40min.


5. After the IQ test. GD follows. We eight members went into the panel 
room. HR gave us a sheet for each of us. In that sheet they ve given a 
situation like profit and loss. Be bold enough to present yourself. 
Remember one thing In MRF your physic matters try to be stiff enough to do 
things. Initially HR asked us to introduce ourselves with family bg. It’s 
the thing like ICE breaker.



Each section has separate marks.
  After finishing all the rounds they were calculating overall marks. And 
they announced the results

      From 14 of us 8 got shortlisted for the MAIN interview  …thats gonna 
to happen in couple of weeks in chennai.. THANKS TO GOD…  in that 8 I came 
2nd. Happy now.Lookin forward for the Main interview.

Surely from 8 they will select 4 of us i think…

what u have to first take into mind what type of cable u want to purchase....then its size matter

usually we use XLPE insulated cable for Power cable and Aluminum or copper its depend upon the cost and loses 

mean if u need large length cable you have to prefer aluminum in shorter length copper cable is preferred as its resistivity is less

for example

VLL = 11kV (line volatge)
L = 1.3km
Maximum allowable Vdrop = 2.5% of VLL i.e.Vdrop = 275V

SkVA = 3000kVA (Total Power we have to transfer of to be used by the connected load)
Full load Current If= SkVA/root3 VLL i.e If = 157.5A

Demand factor is what we actually demand the current (it not always full load current what we demand) Let D.F = 80% of If

Id =D.F x If (Demand Current) where D.F = Demand Factor i.e Id = 126.0A

The cable current carrying capacity is always kept larger than the demand current let S.F for Cable in % = 30% Extra Id

Ic= (1+S.F/100) Id i.e Ic = 163.8A

This current is what will be safer current that will be carried out by cable

Now derating factor K is calculated by the following equation

K = Kground x Ktherm.res x Kdepth x Kgroup

Vdrop = 3IdL root(Rac cos􀄳+ Xsin􀄳)

Now cable data is refered

Type 3 Core, Copper Conductor, XLPE insulated, Copper tape Screened, PVC bedded, Steel Wire Armoured, PVC, 8750/15000V.

Why starter?
When DC Motor is suddenly connected to a supply source, 
it creates stresses on the armature and supply system. 
Since at standstill the armature is not developing any back 
e.m.f, so the more current than the rated current
and this will cause damage to the motor. 

What the starter do ?

A Motor Starter is used for the smooth starting of a motor. 
It consists mainly of a variable resistance placed in 
series with the armature. 
The purpose of this resistance is to restrict the armature 
current to a safe value for starting and accelerating. 

The other uses of using a Motor Starter is
· To disconnect the motor in case of an overload 
· To disconnect the motor when the supply voltage fails
· To disconnect the motor when the field current is reduced 
beyond limit.

no- load losses of the transformer depend on flux density 
of the core and frequency.no load loss is equql to the 
summation of hysterisis loss and eddy current loss.
